In January 2019, our toner cartridges were awarded the Nordic Ecolabel. The label, which is awarded by non-profit government agencies, recognizes products that meet extensive health and environmental requirements and thus have a particularly gentle impact on the environment throughout their entire life cycle. The label is particularly well known in the Nordic countries and helps consumers to quickly recognize sustainably produced products as such.
The resource-saving use of raw materials is an important criterion for sustainable action and thus a central requirement for Nordic Ecolabel certification. For toners to carry the label, for example, proof must be provided that at least 75 percent of the remanufactured toner cartridges consist of recycled components. Working conditions in production are also checked by the responsible local authorities. In addition, the toners must demonstrate the same print quality and capacity as original products.
With the Nordic Ecolabel, however, sustainability does not stop with the sale of the cartridge. To keep resource consumption to a minimum, the organization requires that certified companies have a take-back program for used cartridges. KMP maintains its own "Save Resources" recycling center for this purpose. This collects empties, which we then reprocess in accordance with DIN or designate for professional recycling. In this way, KMP saved around 600 tons of valuable raw material from being incinerated as household waste in 2018.
